When We Stop Forcing the Bloom 🌹

This collector edition is inspired by The Empress tarot card: a symbol of femininity, abundance, creativity, nourishment and trusting the natural rhythm of life. But for me, The Empress became something much more personal.

She arrived during a time when I was exhausted, overwhelmed and trying to do everything at once. I was working, fulfilling orders, preparing for a holiday and trying to finish this painting and somehow, she became the reminder I needed to slow down.

The Empress doesn't rush.

She sits in her forest, surrounded by flowers, water and abundance. She holds her ideas close and waits until her intuition tells her it is time to begin.

And that became the heart of this artwork: You cannot force a flower to bloom.

You can water it. Nourish it. Give it sunlight. And then you have to trust.

Sometimes we need to stop pushing, step away and allow ourselves to rest before we are ready to create again.

In this artwork, The Empress sits peacefully beneath the trees, surrounded by flowers and butterflies. Her scepter represents the ideas and dreams she is carrying, while the little fairy upon it acts as a guide, letting her know when it is time to move forward.

The tree behind her was inspired by one of my favourite journalling spots in Lucan a place where I feel deeply connected to my creativity.

The hundreds of flowers represent the abundance that can come from allowing our ideas and creativity to bloom freely.

The Empress taught me that rest isn't the opposite of creation. Sometimes rest is what makes creation possible.

She asks us to honour our own seasons, stop comparing our bloom to somebody else's, and trust that we don't have to become a different kind of flower to be worthy of growing.

As I wrote in my reflection on creating this card:

“She comes by rest, patience and timing.”

And perhaps that's the invitation of The Empress:
